What to miss from Cambridge?

Hello people from overseas!

Time flies when you're having fun...
I think this sentence is findable in every travel/study-abroad blog around the world. Because it is true. After being "there" I will be "and back again" on Thursday. It has been 7 months ago that I went on an Adventure. O how time has flown by.

Before I leave, I wanted to make a list of what I will miss in Cambridge. And because 'the English language' should definitely be on that, I decided to write this blog in English. Also maybe because there now might be people reading it that don't speak Dutch. (although the automatically generated FB message is definitely in Dutch haha). And it might be good practice to you all.

So, what will I actually miss from Cambridge? The list is quite elaborate (and in random order, grading it would be impossible):
- Dearest Max, Holly, Imram, Fenya and Pebbles (although I will put them all in my suitcase!)
- Tuesday lesson :) (although… probably Saturday and Thursday lesson as well haha)
- Finding your bike everywhere within 2 seconds (between those few and tiny Cambridge bikes)
- Feeling as if I’m walking around in a Harry Potter movie (people wearing gowns definitely help for that)
- Ironically, for someone going back to the Netherlands, korfball.
- ‘15 min bike ride? O that is so far!’ I will miss that while cycling +30 min to work again…
- Punting. Guaranteed weekend entertainment watching the tourists try.
- The fact that it practically never rains (can delete this one after this spring…)
- Our garden (and even though they’re not here yet, the strawberries growing there)
- Our garden-blackbird
- The English countryside
- House dinners
- Ale
- Being cosy and comfortable in that tiny space that we call our lab.
- Nobel prizes literally within reach.
- My stem cell colonies (although they never talked back..)
- Heffers and Waterstones.
- The beautiful colleges.
- The fudge kitchen
- Living relatively close to London.
- Feeling absolutely sound and dressed like a nun while going out.
- Free tennis courts. I don’t use them, but definitely like the idea.
- Superstores.
- Going to a beer festival during lunch.
- People saying "Sorry" to everything, even if they didn't do anything wrong.
- Everything I’ve forgotten, or realize I miss when I’m gone.

Next to things I will miss, definitely some things I won't miss:
- Tourists that randomly jump in front of your bike every weekend (0 killed so far)
- My landlord
- The general lack of (knowledge of) traffic rules.
- Risk assessments
- The mould in our bathroom.
- People keeping their bike-helmets even on while in the supermarket (superdangerous!)
- English drinking

So in general, the list of things to miss is much longer than its opposite and will probably grow with time. Which makes me sad to leave this wonderfull place where I have learnt so much and met so many wonderfull people. I will miss everyone I got to know and hope to be able to come back soon.
Cambridge isn't that far away, as has been shown by the many people visiting me during my stay here. Thanks for that!

See you soon in the Netherlands :)

Greetings from a Cambridge in which spring does not exist this year...
